Renewal

Another Favourite Scripture of mine is found in one of my favourite books in the Old Testament, Isaiah.

Have you not known? Have you not heard?

The Lord is the everlasting God,

the Creator of the ends of the earth.

He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable

He gives power to the faint,

and to him who has no might he increases strength.

Even youths shall faint and grow weary,

and young men shall fall exhausted;

but they who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength;

they shall mount up with wings like eagles;

they shall run and not be weary;

they shall walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)).

This scripture has provided comfort and encouragement to countless numbers of God’s people over the centuries. Isaiah tells us that:

  • The Lord is the everlasting God, who created the earth.
  • It is the Lord who gives power to the faint.
  • It is the Lord who gives strength to those without strength.
  • Those of us who wait on the Lord will not grow weary, even as he does not grow weary.
  • He will renew our strength, and being renewed, we can run the race set before us.

From chapter 40, the Book of Isaiah is a book of Comfort. When things have gone wrong in our lives, when we have no strength of our own, God will provide renewal as we wait on the Lord.
